Artist's Statement Expand

I chose to do research on Jane Cuyler because after coming across her marker, she sounded like an incredible woman whose story had not received adequate public attention. Upon further reading, I found some essays that described her husband, Teleman, as a Revolutionary War Hero but then brushed over Jane. I knew then that I wanted to do what I could to make her story more visible.
