Marker Text: The highway crossing here is the Old Quaker Road, one of Georgia's earliest vehicular thoroughfares, and portions of the original route remain in use today. The road was constructed to provide a direct route from Savannah, the colonial capital, to a Quaker settlement centering around Wrightsboro in what is now McDuffie County. The Quaker Road was one of Georgia's longest and most important routes in the early 19th century, allowing for trade and faster transit to Savannah.
Tips for Finding This Site: At the intersection of North Main Street (U.S. 1) and Old Quaker Road in Wrens, Georgia.
