Georgia Historical Society’s New Georgia Day Video to Explore the Thirteenth Colony’s Founding

Savannah, GA, February 6, 2024—The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) will premiere an all-new Georgia Day video on February 12, 2024—Georgia Day—in recognition of the 291st anniversary of Georgia’s founding on February 12, 1733. As part of GHS’s Georgia History Festival, this short online content-rich program is a visual exploration of the 13th colony’s founding and early development. Featuring greetings from friends and leaders across the state, this presentation is aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and includes classroom resources for primary source analysis geared toward middle and high school students.

A trailer for the video can be found here.

The video, with support from Chick-fil-A, will premiere on February 12, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. on WTOC.com and WTOC+, and will also be available at georgiahistoryfestival.org/georgiaday.

The Georgia History Festival is the signature K-12 educational program of the Georgia Historical Society, reaching hundreds of thousands of students statewide. Beginning with the new school year in September, a variety of public programs, exhibits, events, and educational resources bring history to life for students of all ages and encourage Georgians to explore the richness of our state’s past. Through the 2023-2024 focus of study, “Governing Georgia Across Three Centuries,” GHS will explore three centuries of self-governance in Georgia. This focus of study, aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence, will support students’ understanding of the history and legacy of Georgia’s government and how Georgians have shaped, expanded, and strengthened democracy over time.

In addition to new online and in-person programming like the inaugural Georgia Day Expo, the Festival includes popular annual events such as the Colonial Faire and Muster living-history program held at Wormsloe State Historic Site, Super Museum Sunday, and the elegant Trustees Gala.
