GHS is hosting Behind the Collection Volunteer Day on November 10, 2026, inviting community members to get hands-on experience with the Dr. Charles Elmore Collection. Volunteers will help preserve photographs, enhance collection descriptions, and learn about Dr. Elmore’s contributions to African American history, journalism education, and Savannah’s cultural heritage. Dr. Elmore will also share firsthand insights about his collection and the Southern Regional Press Institute (SRPI).
This special service-learning experience will also connect participants with Savannah State University students and staff. Volunteer spots are limited. Please complete the interest form today to join GHS in making collection materials more accessible for future generations.
