W. Paul Bowers

Paul Bowers is the retired Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company. Prior to assuming his last position in 2011, Mr. Bowers served as chief financial officer of Southern Company from 2001 to 2010.

He also served in various executive leadership positions across Southern Company. In 1998, Paul was elected president and CEO of South Western Electricity LLC (Southern Company’s former U.K. subsidiary), which he later transformed into Western Power Distribution (WPD), a distribution network company. In 2001, he was elected president of Southern Company Generation, where he was responsible for the company’s overall operational activities. He also served as CEO of Southern Power.

Mr. Bowers serves on the boards of AFLAC (lead director) and Brand Safeway. Paul is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Energy Policy Council, the Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd. (past chairman) and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. In addition, he served on the Board of Curators for the Georgia Historical Society, the board of trustees for the University of West Florida, and was a member and the 2016 chair of the Atlanta Committee for Progress.
