Artist's Statement Expand

Ancient cultures have always been an area of interest to me, and as a child I often had opportunities to learn about ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Mesopotamians. However, the indigenous cultures native to North America were poorly represented in comparison. The initiating force of this research was my desire to learn about the ancient ways of life that were practiced where I live, not in a distant country. In addition, this history is crucial to how we understand the history of European colonization of the Creeks, and how we structure our relationships with indigenous Americans today. As an illustrator and graphic designer, I designed a mock-up for a children’s educational pamphlet (Figure 10).
