*Marker Text: Residence and Tanyard of the Rev. Arthur I. Leet, (native of Monaghan, Ireland), 1812-1892. A noted landmark of the Chickamauga Campaign; was Gen. Braxton Bragg's H'dq'rs. [CS], Sept. 17, 18, 1863.
May 6, 1864. H'dq'rs. Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker (20th. A.C.) [US] and Maj. Gen. Daniel Butterfield. William's (1st) Div. was at Pleasant Grove Ch., 4.5 mi. N.E.; Geary's (2d) Div. at Peavine Ch., 2 mi. N.W., and Butterfield's (3d) at Leet's Tanyard.
These troops had marched from Chattanooga, enroute to the valley E. of Taylor's Ridge -- an initial move by Sherman's forces against the Confederate army at Dalton, under Gen. Joseph E. Johnston.
