Marker Text:
Old Stagecoach Road is considered one of the oldest roads in Georgia north of the fall line. Originally used by Native Americans, the road connected Hightower Trail to the Etowah Mounds and Cherokee country with trails to Coweta Falls (Columbus), the Chief McIntosh home on the Chattahoochee River, and the Creek lands in Middle Georgia. The trail was later used by stagecoaches, connecting Decatur to Columbus, routing through Panthersville, Morrow, Jonesboro, Hamilton, and Fayetteville. Early Georgia maps call the route 'Strawn's Road’ and refer to the section south of the Flint River as ‘King’s Road’.
