SUMMARY:Virtual Event: Liberty at Lunchtime
DESCRIPTION:Join the Rhode Island Historical Society on Tuesday\, May 5\, a
t 12:30 pm for Liberty at Lunchtime\, a monthly virtual series highlightin
g partners in the other thirteen original colonies. The May 5 program will
feature a presentation from Dr. Stan Deaton\, Senior Historian at the Geo
rgia Historical Society.\n\nGeorgia was the youngest British colony on the
North American mainland\, lacking the government and leadership infrastru
cture of other colonies\, and by all rights should have remained loyal to
the British Empire. How and why did Georgia join the Revolution\, and how
did it play out in the frontier province?\n\nStan Deaton is the Dr. Elaine
  B. Andrews Distinguished Historian at the Georgia Historical Society\, an
endowed position created by Dr. Victor Andrews. He has worked at the Geor
gia Historical Society since 1998. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the Un
iversity of Florida\, an M.A. in History from the University of Georgia\,
and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the Grady College of Journalism
and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.\n\nThe event is free
but registration is required. Register to attend.
