h Dr. William Hitchcock and Dr. Elizabeth Varon\nPresented by:\n\nThe Unit
ed States will commemorate its 250th anniversary during one of the most pa
rtisan periods in American history. Once again\, a major national commemor
ation will unfold amid deep political division—much like the centennial
of 1876 in the aftermath of the Civil War and Reconstruction\, and the bic
entennial of 1976 following the turmoil of the 1960s\, the Vietnam War\, W
atergate\, and the height of the Cold War.\nJoin us on Thursday\, February
26\, at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal in Savannah for a conversat
ion with Dr. William Hitchcock\, James Madison Professor of History at th
e University of Virginia and an expert on the Cold War\, and Dr. Elizabet
h Varon\, Professor of History and Associate Director of the Nau Center fo
r Civil War History at UVA. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Stan
Deaton\, Senior Historian at the Georgia Historical Society. The event w
ill also be livestreamed for those who are not able to attend in person!\
nHow did those earlier moments—the Civil War and the Cold War—shape th
eir respective commemorations? And what can we learn from the leadership t
hat guided the nation through periods of intense political\, social\, and
economic upheaval? We invite you to be part of this timely conversation
as the nation looks ahead to its 250th anniversary!\nThe event is free bu
t please register to let us know you're planning to attend.\n\nREGISTER\n\
