DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Trustees Gala will be held on Saturday\, April 27\, 20
 24\, at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.\n\nThe Georgia Trustees is a recogniti
 on as old as Georgia and is today the highest honor the state can confer. 
 In conjunction with the Governor’s Office\, the Georgia Historical Socie
 ty reestablished the Georgia Trustees to recognize Georgians whose accompl
 ishments and community service reflect the highest ideals of the founding 
 body of Trustees. Join the Georgia Historical Society and leaders from acr
 oss the state as we induct the 2024 Georgia Trustees\, Ms. Carol Tomé\, C
 hief Executive Officer of United Parcel Service (UPS)\, and Dr. Louis Sull
 ivan\, 17th United States Secretary of Health and Human Services and Found
 ing Dean of the Morehouse School of Medicine\, on Saturday\, April 27\, 20
 24\, in Savannah. This elegant evening includes cocktails\, dinner\, and a
  lively conversation with the inductees—two exemplary Georgians whose hi
 story-making accomplishments and service reflect the original Trustees’ 
 ideals.\n\n\nDue to high demand\, seating for the 2024 Trustees Gala is cu
 rrently reserved for our generous Georgia History Festival corporate spons
 ors and Host Committee members\, as well as for our Georgia Trustee honore
 es and their guests.\n\nAt this time\, we are collecting names for a waiti
 ng list.  However\, we do expect seating to become available so if you or

 dflip]\nThe 2024 Georgia Trustees\n\nLouis Sullivan\nLouis W. Sullivan\, M
 .D.\, was president of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) – the only pre
 dominantly Black medical school in the U.S. established in the 20th Centur
 y – for more than two decades. He became the founding dean and director 
 of the Medical Education Program at Morehouse College in 1975\, which beca
 me The School of Medicine at Morehouse College in 1978.\n\nDr. Sullivan le
 ft MSM in 1989 to accept an appointment by President George H.W. Bush to s
 erve as the 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Serv
 ices\, where he led the national efforts to improve the health and health 
 behavior of Americans.\n\nIn January 1993\, he returned to MSM and resumed
  the office of president. He retired in 2002 and was appointed president e
 meritus.\n\nA native of Atlanta\, Dr. Sullivan graduated magna cum laude f
 rom Morehouse College in 1954\, and earned his medical degree\, cum laude\
 , from Boston University School of Medicine in 1958.  He is certified in 
 internal medicine and hematology\, holds a mastership from the American Co
 llege of Physicians\, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Al
 pha academic honor societies.\n\nDr. Sullivan currently is the chairman of
  the Washington\, D.C.-based Sullivan Alliance to Transform the Health Pro
 fessions. In January 2020\, in order to further increase diversity and tra
 nsform health professions’ education and health delivery systems\, the B
 oard of the Sullivan Alliance voted to become a central program of the Ass
 ociation of Academic Health Centers (AAHC). In 2022\, the AAHC merged into
  the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  He also serves on 
 the boards of United Therapeutics and Emergent Biosolutions\, and he is co
 -chair of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.\n\n\n\nCarol Tomé\n\n\nCarol
  B. Tomé is the Chief Executive Officer of UPS. She is the 12th CEO in th
 e 115-year history of the company.\n\nBefore joining UPS\, Tomé served as
  Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Home Depot\, 
 Inc.\, one of the world’s largest retailers. She joined the company in 1
 995 as Vice President and Treasurer.\n\nTomé began her career as a commer
 cial lender with United Bank of Denver (now Wells Fargo) and then spent se
 veral years as Director of Banking for Johns-Mansville Corporation. Prior 
 to joining The Home Depot\, Tomé was Vice President and Treasurer of Rive
 rwood International Corporation.\n\nTomé serves as board member for Veriz
 on Communications\, Inc.\, board of councilors for the Carter Center and i
 s a board trustee for Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation and the Atlanta 
 Botanical Garden. She is also a member of The Committee of 200\, The Buckh
 ead Coalition\, and The Business Council.\n\nA native of Jackson\, Wyoming
 \, Tomé holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University 
 of Wyoming and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Denve
