Georgia Historical Society Announces Georgia Days 2008 Honoree Curriculum Packet Available Online

This new curriculum resource outlines the life and contributions of Georgia's founding father, James Edward Oglethorpe, and has been developed for teachers of students at all grade levels. The curriculum narrative places Oglethorpe's life into the broader context of the social, economic and political development of Georgia-the thirteenth and final British colony in America and is punctuated by teaching tips, vocabulary lists, and suggestions for classroom activities and further research. Purpose of GHS's Georgia Days
For 275 years, the celebration of the founding of the Colony of Georgia at Savannah on February 12, 1733, by James Edward Oglethorpe has been a tradition among Georgians. The Georgia Historical Society annually recognizes this important anniversary by promoting the study and preservation of our state's rich history and the historical sites, documents, and other materials that offer a window to that past.
