Collection of Savannah Photographer Now Open for Research at the Georgia Historical Society
Savannah, GA- July 19, 2007. The Georgia Historical Society has recently opened the Robert Heriot photographs and records, 1908-1986 for research.
Heriot specialized in portrait, commercial, and industrial photography and his varied work captured important moments in the lives of many Savannahians across half a century. He opened the Savannah Camera Company at 143 Bull Street circa 1947. Twenty years later he moved the location to 307 Bull Street and the business became Heriot's Photography Studio (and later Robert Heriot, Photographer). The business remained at this location until his death.
The arrangement, description, and preservation of this collection was supported by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) and Georgia Archives through funds received from the Office of Secretary of State. Required matching dollars were raised through the support of GHS members whose annual dues provide much needed funds for processing collections like this one that illuminate Georgia's past and its people.
