George Adams Blount was born on 25 September 1846 in Savannah, Georgia and was the only child of George Lucena and Anna Richey Gale Blount. Blount joined the Confederate States of America Army in September 1862 and returned home to Savannah after the end of the war. In March 1866, his father died suddenly and in order to support his family, Blount went to work for the Central of Georgia Railway and learned the blacksmithing trade. On 9 February 1871, he married Emma Pearce Ingram of England. In 1874, he became a circuit Baptist minister, preaching throughout southeast Georgia. Blount died on 11 October 1925 in Pompano, Florida and is buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah.

 Scope and content note

This collection contains George Adams Blount's diaries and the records he kept as a circuit Baptist minister from 1867 to 1917. Within this collection, Blount described his experiences traveling and preaching throughout coastal Georgia in Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, and Tattnall Counties. Also included are his outlines for sermons, notes on Scripture, lists of sermons he gave, and the baptisms he conducted throughout coastal Georgia.
