            <head>Biographical information</head>
            <p>Mary Ricketson Bullard is a relative of the Carnegie family, owners from 1881 of large portions of Cumberland Island, Georgia and as a child she frequently visiting a relative, Mrs. Lucy Ricketson Ferguson on Cumberland Island. Bullard performed extensive research on the history of Cumberland Island, coastal Georgia, and Florida and has written books and essays on the subject. Bullard is a resident of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.</p>

            <head>Scope and content note</head>
            <p>This collection contains the unpublished manuscripts and essays written by Mary Ricketson Bullard's on the history of Cumberland Island, Georgia from 1972 to 1993. Included are the following excerpts, essays, and manuscripts: Admiral Cockburn, on Cumberland Island: Wretch or Champion of Liberty, excerpts from The Ecology of the Cumberland Island National Seashore, The Cumberland Islands: Their Division between the Heirs of Lynch and the Estate of General Greene, Robert Stafford and Chattel Property, edited manuscript of Robert Stafford of Cumberland Island: Growth of a Planter, and Uneasy Legacy: The Lynch-Greene Partition on Cumberland Island, 1798-1902 which appeared in the Winter 1993 edition of The Georgia Historical Quarterly.</p>
