            <p>This collection contains a passport issued to William Griffith Caruthers of Walton County, Georgia on 4 May 1863. During the Civil War, domestic passports were issued to citizens in the Confederate States in order to travel to other states in their union. This passport was issued to Caruthers, who was under the age of eighteen, to travel to Richmond and Fredericksburg, Virginia.</p>
