            <head>Organizational history</head>
            <p>In the 1980s, the Center for Low Country Studies was a part of the department of history at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) in Savannah, Georgia and was integral in promoting research activities that dealt with topics related to coastal Georgia and the Atlantic coastal region in the social sciences, arts, and humanities.</p>

            <head>Scope and content note</head>
            <p>This collection contains archaeological excavation field notes, reports, videocassettes, slides, photographs, films, and computer printouts documenting archaeological investigations of sites throughout coastal Georgia, particularly in Chatham County. These investigations were performed through the Center for Low Country Studies at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) with Lawrence E. Babits as the principal investigator. Sites investigated include the marine railway site on Hutchinson's Island, Causton's Bluff, Hunter Army Airfield, Richmond Hill, and Rincon.</p>
