Matthew H. Bernstein is professor, chair, and director of graduate studies in the Film Studies Department at Emory University. Bernstein holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
An author and editor of books on the Film Industry, Bernstein most recently authored Screening a Lynching: The Leo Frank Case on Film and Television, published by the University of Georgia Press. Bernstein is a member of the Programming, Steering and Selection Committees of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, and in addition serves on the National Film Preservation Board, advising the Librarian of Congress on the National Film Registry and matters of film preservation. Bernstein also recently received the 2008 IMAGE (Independent Media Artists of Georgia, Etc.) Award, and the 2006 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Award.
